The History of Greer Ranch

The Greer Ranch legacy began decades ago with Everett and Adele Greer, who nurtured this land for more than 40 years and raised a remarkable family.

Everett Greer spent his youth on his family's small Chino farm, driving produce to Los Angeles wholesalers in a Model T truck and developing a love of agriculture. He met Adele Holman at her family's small roadside stand, and the two fell in love. They married in 1935 and together founded their nursery business and began their family.

In 1960, Everett discovered an isolated parcel of land at the end of an unpaved road in the Murrieta foothills. As he gazed across the valley of fields and intervening ridgelines, he realized this was where he and Adele would build their home and future.

The land became known as Greer Ranch, and the nursery became known for its large selection of trees and plants. For the perfect exotic palm, Everett was sure to have it. It was Adele who embraced the community of Murrieta and went to great lengths to involve the five Greer children in everything from 4-H to Scouting, while keeping the household running smoothly.

By the early 1970s, the Greer property had grown to more than 800 acres. At Everett and Adele's home, grandchildren frolicked in the backyard oasis where terraced footpaths and grottos led to a swimming pool hidden among the oak trees.

Adele passed away in 1998, leaving behind her beloved husband, five children and 12 grandchildren. While the family is now scattered from Oregon to California and beyond, they are extremely close. Everett with son Rich and grandson Mike still operate the nursery, which is located just off of Greer Road. Today, it is mostly Mike you will see greeting customers and chatting with people, but every now and then Everett will stop by.

When asked about the family's partnership with Lennar Communities in creating the community of Greer Ranch, Everett Greer smiled and said 'This is a wonderful place. It has been good to our family and now we are going to share it with other families.'
